Short Review of LEGO MiniFigures Series 5

This SingTel F1 weekend, I actually wanted to complete my writeup of the Ultimate Series of the LEGO Cars 2 range released this year.  But somehow, I was distracted and went to sort out the box of  LEGO MiniFigures Series 5 (MF5) that has been sitting on the table for the past 2 – 3 weeks.

MF5 was officially available in Singapore on first week of Sept 2011 although some brothers are already hooting it from overseas like Hong Kong or the TS uncle.   However, as I was not willing to pay the premium for having it earlier than the rest in Singapore, I patiently waited for its release.  Initially, there was only a 20% discount due to the members sale at BricksWorld.  I nearly ordered from there until I accidentally discovered that Metro also allows the sale of MF5 by box!  Gladly, I got my usual contact at Metro and asked him to help me order a box and I’ll pick it up from Metro Paragon.  Besides the usual 20% discount from Metro, I has have the 5% rebate from using the UOB Metro Card.  Hence, although the price of MF5 has increased from S$3.90 to S$4.50, the discounts still helps to bring down the price by quite a fair bit.

When I picked it up from Metro Paragon, the lady actually bothered to show me that the box is really MF5 and it has not been opened at all.  Good Service!!  Anyway, the whole box was sitting like that on my table for the past 2-3 weeks as I don’t really have the time to open up and sort out the packs.

Anyway, since MF5 reviews are already readily available on the web, I’m not going to the little details of it.  Instead, I’ll just cover what I feel about this Series.  Here’s how the MF5 box and the inside looks like after open it up.  This series comes with this light blue theme packaging compared with the orange ones in MF4.

After sorting out the whole 60 packs in the box, the distribution is as per what White Fang has stated in his very first review way back in June 2011.  I’ll just repeat his findings again here.

  • 3 Graduates
  • 3 Gladiators
  • 5 Grenadier Guards
  • 3 Eskimos
  • 4 Cavewomen
  • 4 Godzillas
  • 5 Zoo Keepers
  • 4 Woodcutters
  • 4 Circus Clowns
  • 4 Aerobics Instructors
  • 4 Detectives
  • 3 Dwarves Warriors
  • 5 Boxers
  • 3 Pharaoh Queens
  • 3 Mafia Gangsters
  • 3 Snowboarders

For this series, my favorites are the Graduate, Guard and Mafia Gangster.  They are quite new and not related to the previous releases at all.  Here’s how all the 16 of them look like.

As usual, I’m going to keep them in the S$2 display cases that I got from Diaso.  Here’s how they look like with the clear casing on.

While packing my stuff, I realize that I actually still have quite a fair bit of MF3 and MF4 spares left.  This is because since MF2, I’ve been buying MFs by boxes, molesting through them, then opening 1 set and keep another set MISP (Mint In Sealed Pack?).  The rest, I’ll just pack them back and see how to deal with them later on.  I’ve given MF2 out as Christmas presents last year.  For MF3 and MF4, so how, I think I’ve forgotten about them and left them in cold storage.  Now with MF5 spare packs, I think I’ve got about 90 packs :-D.  Maybe can give them out as Christmas presents again this year. 🙂
